SoftChalk 7SoftChalk 7 continues to build upon the success of previous versions of SoftChalk and responds to the needs of digital learners with a variety of new features. SoftChalk 7 increased its mobile functionality with the ability to automatically generate a mobile-friendly version of content created in SoftChalk and detects the device a learner is using so that the appropriate version of the content is displayed. There are also six new mobile-friendly html5 learning activity templates available in SoftChalk 7, to enhance mobile learning content with interactive. Be aware that other learning activities won’t work in the mobile version, but I’m sure more will be on their way in the near future.

SoftChalk 7 added these new feature enhancements…

  • New SoftChalk ScoreCenter for Moodle allows you to track student score data in the Moodle gradebook – Already available for Blackboard Learn users
  • Download lessons and eCourses from CONNECT for editing in SoftChalk – will be a great way to share lessons

SoftChalk 7Recently I got a sneak peek at SoftChalk 7 through one of their webinars. SoftChalk 7 will be released at the end of July and I can’t wait to try it out. I have been a fan of SoftChalk, which is basically a easy to use lesson builder developing the HTML for you behind the scenes. We have a site license at Valencia open to all our faculty and staff to utilize this products to build engaging, interactive, and professional looking lesson that can be imported into Blackboard, saved on a web server, or stand alone on a CD.

Few newly added features for SoftChalk 7:

SoftChalk Smart Mobile – SoftChalk content can now be specially formatted for viewing on smart phone devices. This a great new feature that will be a tool that institution moving to mobile devices, such as the iPad in the classroom will rejoice in having available.

SoftChalk CONNECT Plus – new features support collaborative editing, hosting and managed access to your content, as well as an integrated ScoreCenter to reliably track learner score results from e-Learning content hosted anywhere—on CONNECT, in an LMS, on a webserver, CD-ROM, classroom computers or mobile devices.

ScoreCenter for Moodle – Moodle users rejoice!  SoftChalk ScoreCenter for Moodle is now a reality! SoftChalk LogoToday I’m reviewing SoftChalk™ which is a powerful web lesson editor that lets you easily create engaging, interactive web lessons for your e-learning classroom.

Do you know HTML? Do you know programming? If you answered NO! Then SoftChalk might be right for you. You can create professional-looking interactive content without knowing any HTML or programming. Spend your time developing course content as the content expert, not learning how to use complex software.

SoftChalk is a tool we use at Valencia to create engaging and interactive tutorials or lessons with lots of customization without knowing all the HTML coding required.

One of my favorite tools is the pop-up text annotations in which you can define terminology, include screenshots, and enhance the interactivity of your lesson.

Other features are interactive learning games, including customizable flashcards, image labeling, image hotspot activities, matching games, crosswords and more. Question types include multiple choice, multiple answer (more than one correct answer), short answer, true/false, matching, and ordering.

SoftChalk is easy to edits or update the style to a different look in a few minutes. The overall look of the actually software is pretty simple but that what makes is great. It is easy for faculty and beginners to catch on quickly, almost as simple as a word processing program. SoftChalk can easily be packaged and delivered via CD-ROM, Internet, Intranet, or with a course management system such as WebCT and Blackboard.
